Our Commitments

Standards alignment that supports strong instruction

Writing with Design is built to support the full range of writing and language expectations schools are responsible to teach, including Common Core and state standards where applicable. Because our approach emphasizes purposeful, text-based writing tasks, it also reinforces additional literacy skills students need to read closely, think critically, and communicate clearly across content areas. From prompts to rubrics to Skill Focus Activities, our resources keep instruction anchored in rigorous expectations while making the path to quality writing explicit and achievable for students.

Teaching the how and why of writing

We focus on what matters most: the developmental progression of writing skills, the quality of ideas and evidence, and the thinking students must do to communicate with clarity and voice. Students grow faster when they understand not only what to write, but why writers make certain choices. Our professional learning is collaborative and practical, built around routines and activities teachers can use immediately, then refine through continued support and follow-up.

As teachers strengthen their knowledge of writing development, instruction becomes more consistent, and students gain a shared language for planning, drafting, revising, and polishing. With clear tools and ongoing guidance, teachers build confidence, and writing instruction becomes sustainable in real classrooms.

Changing ideas about writing

When writing becomes clear, structured, and supportive, reluctance turns into readiness. Students who once avoided writing begin to take risks because they know what to do next, and teachers who once felt unsure about teaching writing gain momentum because they can see growth in student work.

Students learn to craft engaging stories, develop informative pieces with clarity, and build convincing arguments with purpose.
